IS HOPE A NECESSARY EVIL?
IS HOPE A NECESSARY EVIL?
Sorry it's been so long in between posts, but I'm back! Now, this is not a topic that needs a great deal of explanation. But, the false interpretation of today's generation makes this topic a little bit complicated. For some people, "Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness" and for others, "Hope in reality is the mother of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man." I'm hoping now you can see why this topic is important. Come on, let's go deep!
What is Hope?
First, it's your turn. Think about it. What is hope from your perspective? For me, hope is a divine element. Recently, I have come across a beautiful definition of hope: Hold on, pain ends. Do you agree with this? Does pain have an end? To get back on track, hope can mean many things from different perspectives. Philosophically, a person can hope for anything they believe is possible. As Aristotle once said, "Hope is a waking dream".
Is hope a dream?
Now this question should be cleared. Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen. Likewise, a dream is an idea imagined in fantasy, a desire, or a dream cherished for its own sake. In some instances, hope and dream coincide, which leads to some dreams where we wish not to wake up. As some legends said, sometimes reality is often disappointing. It is at these times that dreams become our ultimate refuge. All dreams are hopes but all hopes are not dreams.
Can we hope for anything in this world?
As a strong believer in love, trust, and hope, my answer would be a clear YES. See, the world is created for us, so why can't we hope for anything in this world? Just like I used the term hope instead of wish, it can be used ubiquitously. But remember- its duration cannot be measured. It would be different for each and every circumstance in this world. A few days before I was really confused about the question "what's next?" Although I believed in hope, at that instant, I felt hopeless. But sticking with the posse who pulled the magic out of me and taught me that 'Hope can never be taken away,' raised hope in me. And now, BOOM! I just got a solution.
When does hope turn to evil?
There is no doubt that hope can sometimes be harmful. Do you know who turns your hope into evil? Nah, don't look back. It's NONE other than YOU. You should only hope when there is no solution. I know people who hope [dream] every time despite having so many solutions at hand. Hope is a sort of Plan B. We should always look for solutions, which is Plan A. If you ignore all those obvious solutions and wait in hope, even God will laugh at you. Always have hope. However, don't be lazy to check out a solution on your own.
Do you consider hope a necessary evil?
Well, this was our real question. By sifting through what we said, what do you think? In my opinion, Hope is a good side dish but a bad main course. But we can't avoid it. Can you imagine a life without hope? I think every creature continues to live only because of hope. Hope is a double-edged sword. It can be the best of motivators or the worst of evils. It can cut you both ways. But keeping a double-edged sword throughout our lives is safe, right?
LASTLY, let me tell you that hope is the distance between expectations and reality. Life without hope is meaningless and life with hope is full of possibilities. And YES, hope is a necessary evil. I know this is not a topic with plenty of arguments. Still, writing engages me. Here's what I'm thinking about.
Also, feel free to put some questions forward, we can discuss them in the coming sessions...
You have written so much about hope, I hope that you get the audience you deserved and feel free to ask really good questions to you, and i hope the questions be so much to the point that it creates a discussion on the topics you write :-D
ReplyDeleteBy the way the topic is a bit far away from my interest to comment on it, i'am not sure about "Hope" , but friction is a necessary Evil ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The difference is, friction is in the opposite direction of the path you move and hope is in the same direction of your path or destination, if it is not it should be. ツ
Hehe.. friction tempted me to make such a title.. and sometimes, hope moves in the opposite direction of the path we move, were all our problems starts.
ReplyDeleteBut a big thank you for you to comment on this blog even you are not much interested in this topic.. I used to get motivated by your appreciations. ツ
Keeps on appreciating so that you not lose your hope and keep on writing on such topics, you write pretty well, it's just that you haven't got the exposure ;)
